About Me

My photo
I am passionate about the written language. I love writing, reading, reviewing, selling and promoting books. I am an independent bookseller with over 20 years of experience in the book trade. Together with my partners, I actively aim to improve our bookstore's range and services to better reflect the needs of our community and clientele. In 2008, my memoir 'Under A Starless Sky' was published by Hachette, Australia. Since then, I had a short story 'Jasmine Petals' published in 'Stories of Belonging' (Finch) and in 2013, released my first full-length novel, The Russian Tapestry, also by Hachette. I am currently writing my second novel. I strive daily to improve my skills and stretch the limits of my craft. My love of books has naturally lead to reviewing. Sydney Author Event - November 2014

Sydney Author Event

November 2014

A group of Romance enthusiasts got together to organise The Sydney Author Event.
Best selling International and local orders converged at Sydney's Ivy to meet their fans and sign copies of their books.

Your Bookshop was there as the bookseller for the event. In between selling books, we got to hob nob with the authors over lunch and a sinful glass of champagne.

Romance Writers of Australia Conference

Over four massive days (7-10 August), Romance writers of Australia gathered at Novotel in Sydney Olympic Park for workshops, book signings, social events and networking.

James Scott Bell
Cherry Adaire

The key-note speaker at this year's conference was best-selling US author, Cherry Adair charming everyone with her quick wit and larger-than-life personality.

Other speakers were James Scott Bell whose all-day workshop on Friday won him much praise from romance writers.

Over the weekend, aspiring novelists also had the opportunity to meet and pitch their books to agents and publishers represented at the conference. This was a great opportunity for unpublished novelists to meet face-to-face with some of Australia's leading publishers.

Your Bookshop was the preferred bookstore for the conference. Between Friday and Sunday we set-up a stall, selling selected titles by some of the authors present. On Saturday afternoon, authors and public had the opportunity to meet their favourite romance writers and have their books signed. Again Your Bookshop was there to sell books through the frenzied hour.

The following are some of the photos we took over the 3-day conference.

Thank you to all the authors, publishers and romance enthusiasts who visited our stall. We loved meeting you.

Tim Bowden - Stubborn Buggers

On Wednesday July 23rd Your Bookshop and Ryde Library hosted a Sold Out event with oral historian, Tim Bowden. Stubborn Buggers is the true account of Australian POWs at Outram Road Gaol - a military prison that made Changi look like heaven. The Outram story has tended to slip through the cracks when set against the Sandakan Death Marches and slave labour of Thai Burma Railway due to relatively few Australian prisoners who were held there.

In an amazing turn of events, during the question time we realised Bill Young, the youngest POW to survive Outram and whose paintings are featured in the book, was in the audience.
