Start of winter is a time when many of us suffer from colds and start to feel run down. It is also the time when we neglect our diets, falling into bad habits. This is why we thought June would be the perfect time to re-think the food we eat, swapping the bad toxic foods with nutritious #supercharged alternatives.

Over three nights at three separate locations, Lee Holmes talked on her personal journey from the collapse of her immune system to total health. Researching the nutritious value of food, Lee described the simple changes we can make that have massive impact to our well being and quality of life.

Tim's latest book, Stubborn Buggers is the little known story of twelve Australian POWs who fought and survived the action in Malaya before the fall of Singapore and endured captivity and slave labour, then the unimaginable hardships of Outram Road Gaol.

Your Bookshop Event - P.M. Newton @ Concord Library

Fresh from an Arts degree, P.M. Newton joined the New South Wales police force in 1982. She spent most of her career as a detective, working both in Sydney and on the mid-North Coast, and in specialist agencies including Drug Enforcement, Sexual Assault and Major Crime. When she had eventually had enough of meeting people for the first time on the worst day of their lives, Newton resigned from the Job to travel and live overseas. Since then she has written about music and travel in Mali, and studied Buddhist Philosophy in India. Her first novel, The Old School, won a Sisters in Crime Davitt Award and the Asher Literary Award, and was shortlisted for the Indie Award for Debut Fiction and the Ned Kelly Award for Best First Fiction.  Her short fiction has appeared in Seizure, Review of Australian Fiction and The Great Unknown and her commentary pieces have appeared on the ABC’s The Drum. Her most recent book is Beams Falling.

Sydney Writers' Festival 2014 #swf2014

Our first taste of what was to come at this year's Sydney Writers' Festival came with an invitation to the launch of the festival's Western Sydney program at Female Orphan School, University of Western City - Parramatta campus. Artistic Director, Jemma Birrell announced some of the festival highlights scheduled for Western Sydney, including events by Christos Tsiolkas, Dav Pilkey, Alexis Wright and Alive Walker at Riverside Theatre, Parramatta.

As part of the program, Ryde Library hosted two events by best-selling authors, David Hunt and journalist Paul Barry. Both nights, Your Bookshop was there as the bookseller for the events.

The Writers' Festival is always an exciting time for book lovers. This year was no different with 300 events and 400 participants merging for a week of writing and ideas that left us inspired, entertained and connected.

Lee Holmes events with Your Bookshop

Lee's latest book, Eat Yourself Beautiful is a guide to achieving inner and outer health and ageless beauty through simple, delicious recipes using nutritionally rich, anti- inflammatory 'super' foods. Many of the dishes in this inspiring and practical book are gluten, wheat, yeast and sugar-free. Also included are beauty-friendly menu plans and shopping lists; advice on what foods to avoid; how to detox and information on how to identify hidden food sensitivities, allergies and inflammation.

The first of our events with Lee is on June 16 at Concord Library. 

Learn how to use food to achieve optimum health. Through her own personal journey, Lee has come up with a list of Supercharged Foods that help the body combat the harmful toxins that build in our system as the result of eating processed products.
